We Were Never Really Friends (Lyrics with a Biro), Fake Friends the poem by Sarnia de la Maré FRSA

The latest Tale Teller Club single is off to the distributer.

Here are the lyrics and the the poem that inspired them by Sarnia de la Maré FRSA

We Were Never Really Friends

Sometimes there’s an emptiness

An echo unreturned

A memory now forgotten

Knowing now unlearned

I am stealing shadows

Ones to call my own

Leaping from the chasms

Where Light is never thrown

We were walking to the beat

With nothing on our feet

But the tears that you shed

Were wasted on the dead

‘Cause you know you killed me then

When you lied that we were friends

chorus

On a train to love’s misfortune

Wrapped in hopes belonging

Binding words compelling

On a derailed train

To a bitter end

We were never really friends

I am stealing shadows

Ones to call my own

But you are just a hollow

Where nothing ever grows

The original poem which inspired the song

Fake Friends

It took many years

and a million mistakes

to see

that we

were never friends

I was wrapped

so tightly in

Belonging

The songs were

binding

and the troupes

compelling

But we were

Never really friends

We were passengers

on one another’s

trains

Derailed and destined

for some

grizzly end

We were never ever

Friends
