Ruin, Gothic Poetry by Sarnia de la Maré FRSA

Ruin by Sarnia de la Maré FRSA poem illustration

 Ruin

When sleep won't come
the ghosts appear
they never left
just disappeared
for short a time

I remember the old days
when you were mine
What fun we had
crazy mad,
and glad
to be alive

The goodness died
the fabulous faded
jaded memories
tarnished stories
errors too loud
to quiet the night

The ghosts walk proud
as we march with them to ruin

Want to Start a band? Tips form the Tale teller Club about making your dream come true.

Harmony in Motion: A Guide on How to Start a Band

band on stage lights strobes live music gig

Introduction:

Starting a band is not just about playing music; it's about creating a collaborative space where creativity and passion can thrive. Whether you're a group of friends looking to make music together or individuals seeking like-minded musicians, the journey of starting a band can be both exciting and rewarding. In this guide, we'll walk you through the essential steps to kickstart your musical journey and establish a band that harmonizes well both on and off the stage.

Define Your Sound and Genre: Before you start looking for band members, it's crucial to have a clear idea of the music you want to create. Define your sound, influences, and the genre you want to explore. This will guide your search for compatible musicians and help you build a cohesive musical identity.

Find Like-Minded Musicians: Seek out musicians who share your musical vision and commitment. Attend local open mic nights, music classes, or use online platforms to connect with potential band members. Networking in your local music scene can be a great way to find individuals who are passionate about the same style of music.

Collaborative Songwriting: Encourage open communication and collaboration from the beginning. Songwriting sessions should be a collective effort where everyone's ideas are considered. This not only strengthens the bond within the band but also contributes to a diverse and rich musical repertoire.

Establish Roles and Responsibilities: Clearly define each member's role within the band. This includes musical responsibilities (who plays what instrument), as well as non-musical tasks such as social media management, booking gigs, and handling logistics. A well-defined structure ensures everyone contributes to the band's success.

Rehearsals and Practice: Regular rehearsals are essential for honing your sound and improving as a group. Establish a consistent practice schedule that works for everyone. Use this time not only for playing songs but also for refining your stage presence and addressing any concerns or suggestions from band members.

Create a Demo or Recordings: Invest time in creating a demo or recording that showcases your band's talent. This will serve as a promotional tool when reaching out to venues for gigs or when connecting with potential fans. Quality recordings can make a significant difference in attracting attention to your music.

Build an Online Presence: In the digital age, having a strong online presence is crucial. Create a website or social media profiles for your band. Share updates, photos, and videos to engage with your audience. Platforms like SoundCloud, Bandcamp, or YouTube are excellent for sharing your music with a wider audience.

Book Gigs and Perform: Start booking gigs at local venues, open mic nights, or community events. Performing live not only hones your stage presence but also helps you connect with your audience. Don't be afraid to start small; every performance is an opportunity to grow.

Build a Support System: Surround yourself with a supportive network, including friends, family, and fellow musicians. Attend local music events, collaborate with other bands, and foster positive relationships within the music community.

Stay Committed and Have Fun: Building a successful band takes time and effort. Stay committed to your musical journey, and most importantly, have fun along the way. Celebrate your achievements, learn from challenges, and continue evolving as a band.

Conclusion: Starting a band is an adventure that goes beyond the music itself. It's about creating a community of like-minded individuals who share a passion for creating something unique. By following these steps and staying true to your musical vision, you'll be well on your way to establishing a band that not only makes great music but also enjoys the journey together. So, plug in, turn up the volume, and let the journey begin!

Performer: The classic route, but with a modern twist. Live performances, whether in traditional venues, festivals, or virtual spaces, remain a primary source of income for many musicians. Diversify your performances by exploring genres, collaborating with other artists, and adapting to new platforms.

Session Musician: Offer your skills as a session musician for recording studios, film, TV, or other musicians. This allows you to showcase your versatility and contribute to a wide range of projects.

Composer and Arranger: Dive into the world of composition and arrangement for various mediums, including film, TV, video games, and advertising. Your musical creations can enhance visual storytelling and contribute to a dynamic range of projects.

Music Producer: Use your expertise to shape the sound of other artists. As a music producer, you'll work in studios, guiding artists through the recording process, and often adding your creative touch to the final product.

Sound Engineer: Master the technical side of music by becoming a sound engineer. Work in recording studios, live events, or in the film and television industry to ensure the perfect balance of sound.

Music Educator: Share your passion and knowledge by becoming a music teacher or instructor. Whether in schools, private lessons, or online courses, teaching allows you to inspire the next generation of musicians.

Music Therapy: Harness the healing power of music by becoming a music therapist. Use your skills to help individuals cope with physical, emotional, or mental health challenges.

Music Technology and Production: Embrace the digital age by delving into music technology and production. From designing software to creating sound libraries, technology offers new and exciting avenues for musicians.

Digital Content Creator: Leverage social media and digital platforms to showcase your music and build a brand. Platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram provide opportunities for musicians to reach a global audience and monetize their content.

Entrepreneurship in the Music Industry: Start your own music-related business, whether it's a record label, a music venue, or a production company. Entrepreneurial ventures allow you to shape the industry and create opportunities for yourself and others.

Conclusion: Modern musicians have a vast array of options to explore within the music industry and beyond. By embracing the diversity of opportunities available—from live performances to technology-driven roles—musicians can build fulfilling and sustainable careers. The key is to stay open to new possibilities, adapt to the changing landscape, and blend creativity with a strategic mindset to navigate the complexities of the modern music profession.

The Tale Teller Club Orchestra: Composing Surreal and Dystopian Soundtracks for an Online Book Series

In the vast realm of online creativity, a group known as the Tale Teller Club Orchestra has emerged as a captivating and innovative force, redefining the boundaries of storytelling. With a blend of literary prowess and musical ingenuity, this orchestra and band collaborate to create surreal and dystopian soundtracks for their online book series. Their work not only captivates readers but immerses them in a multisensory journey through the written word and melodious soundscapes.

The Tale Teller Club Orchestra is a collective of authors, musicians, composers, and artists who have joined forces to craft a unique and immersive experience for their readers. The group's primary focus is on producing an ongoing online book series that explores surreal and dystopian themes. However, what sets them apart is their ability to seamlessly integrate original musical compositions into the narrative.

The Orchestra's authors are skilled wordsmiths who craft intricate, mind-bending tales that transport readers to otherworldly dimensions. Each story is meticulously woven with surreal and dystopian elements, leaving readers on the edge of their seats, eagerly anticipating the next chapter.

But the magic truly happens when the musicians and composers in the band step in. They take the written word and transform it into sound, creating a vivid, haunting, and atmospheric backdrop for the narrative. Their compositions range from haunting melodies to dissonant, discordant tunes, enhancing the surreal and dystopian elements of the story.

The interplay between words and music is what defines the Tale Teller Club Orchestra's work. It's as though readers are wearing headphones while reading, experiencing the story in a truly unique and immersive way. These soundtracks elevate the storytelling experience, breathing life into the written word and allowing readers to delve deeper into the surreal and dystopian worlds the authors have envisioned.

The process is a collaborative one. As authors write, they share their work with the band members. The musicians then use the text as inspiration to create compositions that resonate with the narrative's themes, emotions, and atmospheres. The result is a fusion of words and music that evokes a visceral response from the readers.

In addition to their online book series, the Tale Teller Club Orchestra periodically hosts live events, where they bring their stories and soundscapes to life in a unique and immersive way. These events allow fans to experience the Orchestra's work in a live setting, further blurring the lines between literature and music.

The Tale Teller Club Orchestra has successfully demonstrated that storytelling isn't confined to the written word alone. By integrating original soundtracks into their online book series, they have pushed the boundaries of storytelling, creating an experience that transcends the page and captivates readers in an entirely new and extraordinary way. Their fusion of words and music not only immerses readers in surreal and dystopian worlds but leaves them eagerly awaiting the next chapter of this innovative artistic journey.
