The Last Sunrise
The sky burned with streaks of crimson and gold, a final masterpiece before the world collapsed. Humanity had known this day would come—a rogue asteroid, too large to deflect, hurtling toward Earth like a harbinger of doom. Yet, in the quiet moments before impact, the streets were oddly serene.
Ella sat on her apartment roof, clutching her dog, Max, and sipping tea from a chipped mug. The air was still, as if even nature held its breath. She had spent the last week calling estranged friends, forgiving old betrayals, and listening to her favorite songs. The world-ending news had stripped away trivialities, leaving behind only what truly mattered.
Across the city, an old man played a violin, its mournful melody carried on the wind. Strangers gathered in parks, holding hands and watching the horizon. A child laughed, chasing bubbles that floated like fragile dreams against the sky.
When the asteroid appeared, a fiery dot growing impossibly fast, Ella whispered to Max, “It’s beautiful, isn’t it?”
The ground rumbled as the fiery mass split the heavens. For a moment, the world was illuminated with light so pure it seemed to burn away every sorrow, every regret. Then came silence—a profound, all-encompassing silence.
And then, nothing.
But somewhere, in the infinite expanse of the universe, stardust whispered its promise: from endings come beginnings.
